Mom Time!

What?! Time for Mom? Yes!!! Whether you are looking for some major weight loss or just tightening things up I want you to know that allowing yourself to have an hour or so a day to work on this is NOT SELFISH! I hear this so much and I need to speak about it. Whether you are a stay at home mommy, working mommy or both you DESERVE one hour a day to work on your health. As moms we are the housekeepers, chefs, teachers, accountants, taxi’s, PTA members, softball coaches, party planners….. The list goes on and on!! Huge shout out to all the single parents!! Doing mommy AND daddy’s job! All of us military spouses experience this as well at deployment time. I mean really, what don’t moms do?? Basically the glue that holds EVERYTHING together in most households. With ALLLLLL of that being said I feel damn good saying that YES YOU DESERVE MOM TIME! Let’s be real, sometimes when it is said that you don’t have the time to work out…. Is that the truth?? I don’t think so. In life anything that is a priority you make time for right?? If your kid’s are sick do you take them to the doctor? Do you pay your bills? Do you go grocery shopping?? ABSOLUTELY!! These are priorities and once you acknowledge working out as one of them you will find the time for it no matter what. Does this involve self motivation and accountability?? No doubt, and that is why I am here! I personally find that working out first thing in the morning is not only what I believe to be the best time for your body but also best for my family. Exercising at this time does not take away any family time what so ever which eliminates that stress you put on yourself.
Through social media it is abundantly clear to me that we all experience “those mommy day’s”. The ones where the kids are arguing, the babies miserable from teething, the laundry is overflowing, kitchen is a mess and what do you as a mommy want to do??? Be honest!! Cry, go on a vacation, sleep for a month or just do anything on your own time for a day??? Sound familiar, I think so and totally agree!! I think the sooner people can come to terms with this is all normal feelings and be honest about it that is half the battle. With Pinterest and social media I feel we as moms have often times stretched ourselves way too thin and put way too many expectations on ourselves!! While yes I love browsing Pinterest for the occasional idea, I refuse to stress over all the perfections of things now. I have a 6 and 1 year old. Do I really need to take 6 hours out of my day to create hand made table decorations for my sons birthday party that things will be spilled all over and overlooked anyway?? HELL NO!! lol Sorry I have to be frank;) These are the things we as a society put way too much stress on our selves about. When at the end of the day our kids will only remember if they had fun at their party. That is where I’m going with all of this. We as moms need to remind ourselves that the less stress we have about things that don’t truly matter the more energy we have to put into things that really do matter. Where is this energy and de stressing going to come from?? Exercise!!
As I’m sure you have heard this before, exercise and physical activity produces endorphins. These are chemicals in the brain that act like natural pain killers and improve the ability to sleep. These two things combined equate to reducing stress. I’m only reminding you of this because my life now is proof of this. Exercise has allowed me to cope with all stressor aspects of my life far more productively. Yes of course I still have things that will burden me from time to time, but my reaction to these things are far different. Exercise is my go to and at the end of my workout I feel far better than I did when I started.
So while it is a bit of a challenge to get started on a new routine I can say without a doubt that having some exercise mom time is absolutely the best thing you can do for your body and most IMPORTANTLY your MIND!! So find a time of day that works best for your family and get started. Fitness is a mentality and once you are able to cope with your stresses better you will no doubt reach your goals. Sky is the limit folks, BELIEVE!!
